Copy That

What’s a favorite memory you have of one of your parents or someone in your family?
Who’s someone you look up to? Why do you admire them?
Meeting in person? Play “Signs” with your group! It’s all about copying signs and guessing who in the group is creating it.

Make It Personal
When in your life have you had to be something you’ve never seen before? (How do you copy what you never saw? What did you never see that you’re having to be now?)
“That which you copy is that which you become.” How have you experienced this truth? What are some ways copying others has helped you and what are some ways copying others has hurt you?
Read Hebrews 13:7. What does it mean to consider the outcome? Rate yourself on a scale of 1-10 for how well the life you’re choosing is producing the outcomes you desire. (Talk about some decisions you’re making that might not lead to those outcomes you want. Some examples could be accruing debt, judging others, your language, faulty values, etc.)
You can be a good person but have bad patterns. Who do you know who has good patterns? (Think about behavior patterns, spending patterns, language patterns, etc.) Which patterns can you copy to get the outcomes you want?
Read Matthew 4:1-10. The devil only tempts us in three ways — the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. What are some common examples of those you see in culture? Which one are you struggling most to not copy? (How do you weed out worldly values in your life on a daily basis? What steps can we take?)
Go deeper. Read Romans 12:2. How would you explain the difference between conformation and transformation? How can you transform where you’ve been conforming?
We must monitor the inputs if we want better outcomes. How can you practically plan a better outcome this week? What are some healthy and positive inputs you can lean into this week so you experience better outcomes? (e.g., plan meals ahead of time, get at least seven hours of sleep each night, start each day by reading your Bible, resolve to not think judgmental thoughts about others, etc.)
Act On It
Take 10-15 minutes this week to identify the areas of your life where you’re a leader (anywhere in your life where you’re making an impact), then ask yourself this question: “What am I copying without realizing it? How can I ‘copy that’ instead?” Copy something that will lead to the outcome you want.Need some more scriptures to help you copy the right thing? Here are some examples:
Romans 8:37 – I am a winner. Copy that.
Psalm 18:32 – I am strong. Copy that.
Zephaniah 3:17 – God isn’t disappointed in me; He delights in me. Copy that.
Jeremiah 29:11 – I have hope. Copy that.
Romans 8:38-39 – I am unconditionally loved. Copy that.
Prayer Requests And Prayer
Ask eGroup members to share any prayer requests they have. Record any notes or prayer requests to pray for members during the week.Father, we’re so grateful You sent us a savior who showed us what to copy. Transform our minds this week so we can see where we’ve been copying the things of this world instead of the things that will give us the life You want. In Jesus’ name, amen.
