Pastor Steven gave us the “prequel” to the message we heard last week about King Hezekiah. What is your favorite book, movie, or TV prequel?
Sermon Reflection
Help to transition the group to the discussion with one of these questions.
What did God reveal to you through this week’s message?
What was your main takeaway from the sermon?
Sermon Discussion
“What does your letter say?”
What lie is the enemy trying to tell you that you need to do battle with?
Read 2 Kings 19:14. What would it look like for you to spread your letter before God? (Here are some examples: journaling, praying for wisdom, etc.)
After you “give God your problem,” what would it practically look like to “give your problem God”?
When you’re faced with a letter from the enemy, what is your initial response: to rip it up (deny it), overthink it (read it over and over), or stuff it (bury it deep down)? How have you seen these responses impact your life and your decision making?
“As we spread our problems before God, He spreads His protection over us.” How have you seen and experienced God’s protection over you as you seek Him in the midst of your struggles?
Where have you been “stuck in your head recently,” and what would help you break the cycle before it spreads?
Activating Faith
Challenge your group to keep activating their faith. Make this a part of your eGroup time or send this activity to them after you meet.
When faced with challenges, it’s easy to believe the problem is unsolvable and that help is unavailable. But God’s word says otherwise. Read 1 John 4:4 as a reminder that He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world!
Take a moment to write down the letter(s) you’re carrying around this week. Ask God for help identifying the lies the enemy is placing in those letters. What truth can you write to replace the lies and battle what the enemy is saying?
Next, write 1 John 4:4 at the top of your list as a reminder of how great God is. When God is at your side, the enemy has no power! Thank God for His protection and strength and ask Him to help you overcome these challenges.
Make it a goal to memorize 1 John 4:4 this week. The next time the enemy tries to discourage you, fight back with the truth of God’s word!
Prayer
Close out your group with prayerDear God, thank you that with you at my side, nothing is too big for me to face. Remind me of your presence and your protection over me. Help me bring you my letters this week and trust that you will listen and respond. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
