Conversation Starters
Play “Hot Seat” with your group! Everyone takes a turn being the one in the “Hot Seat,” and while they are, the group asks as many random questions as they want. (e.g., what’s your favorite song, if you could take a trip today where would you go, what’s the most popular movie you’ve never seen, etc.)
You’re having fish for lunch. What kind of fish are you eating? (e.g., tuna sushi, grilled salmon, fish sticks, etc.)
If you could ask any celebrity one question, who would it be and what would you ask?
Review
Ask eGroup members to share their favorite points from the sermon, what spoke to them, a phrase or moment from the sermon they related to the most, or questions they have. If members have a hard time recalling the sermon, talk through your notes and share your favorite points.
Make It Personal
Read John 6:5-13. If you could ask God anything about this event, what would you want to know? (e.g., how many people were there overall, what kind of fish did they eat, how big were the baskets, etc.)
Breakthrough starts with a question. What have you been asking God lately?
What are some of the challenges that can keep us from asking God questions? Which of those challenges do you face?
Read James 1:5. Pastor Steven said, “I don’t want God to give me what I need, but what He knows.” Where in your life do you need to ask God for wisdom or revelation? (What’s the difference between asking God for wisdom and asking for a solution?)
In what areas of your life are you TELLING God something instead of ASKING Him?
Share some questions you might not be asking God or the people around you because you’ve assumed you know the answer. (Are there any places you haven’t asked for help because you assumed the answer would be no?)
When you hear “no,” think “next.” No means next. Where have you stopped because you heard no? How can you go after what’s next?
God will give us what we didn’t even know to ask for. What’s something God has given you that you didn’t even know to ask for, or through a person you didn’t know to ask?
What’s one practical step you can take this week to live out your biggest takeaway from the message?
Act On It
Spend time this week asking God. Ask for wisdom. Ask for revelation. Replace any condemnation or wrong labels with a question. (e.g., Instead of thinking “I don’t have what it takes,” you could ask God to show you how He’s equipped you for the situations you’re facing.)
Prayer Requests And Prayer
Ask eGroup members to share any prayer requests they have. Record any notes or prayer requests to pray for members during the week.Father, thank You for making Your wisdom available to us. Help us be mindful that it’s available to us if we’ll stop and ask for it, and help us remember to ask You what we need instead of trying to tell You what we need. In Jesus’ name, amen.
