Make It Personal
Have you ever felt like you were a bird in a bowl or a fish in a birdhouse? Share with the group a time when you experienced that.
Read Genesis 1:20-26. God made fish for the seas and birds for the air. Pastor Steven shared some hilarious illustrations about birds trying to swim, fish trying to fly, and he even tried to fit into Holly’s blazer. Where do you feel you don’t quite fit in this season? (Is there an insecurity making it hard to move in where God has called you to be? What’s your “basketball” or “hammer” — the thing you’re not good at? Why do you feel like you need to be good at that?)
How can we practically identify the difference between something we need to grow in and something we’re not meant to fit into?
“There is something in me that believes I do not have what I need for where I am.” Read Ephesians 2:10. What ideas about yourself don’t line up with God’s image for you? How are those ideas keeping you from moving in what you’re made for?
“You will fill what you were formed for when you stop complaining about where you don’t fit.” What do you need to do to live that out? Are there things you need to add or remove from your life? (What things or people around you are helping you develop into who God is calling you to be? How do you need to be careful around things and people who might be feeding your insecurity?)
What’s your “mic”? What gifts, talents, and things that God gave you do you need to focus on? (What did God put in you so that you can move through the situation you’re going through?)
How can you focus with gratitude on the gifts that God has placed in your life? Talk about how doing this will help you move in what you’re made for.
Act On It
“I know what I’m made for because I spend time with my maker.” Get in God’s presence this week. Get honest with Him about where you feel insecure and unequipped — let Him show you how to move in what you’re made for. Spend time in the Bible to find truth to help you trust God’s Word will move beneath the surface of your situation.
Prayer Requests And Prayer
Ask eGroup members to share any prayer requests they have. Record any notes or prayer requests to pray for members during the week. Father, thank You for helping us move beyond our insecurities and for making us in Your image. Help us see ourselves for who You have created us to be. We are grateful for all the blessings in our lives, both seen and unseen. Show us how to use our gifts for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, amen.
