Conversation Starters

  • What’s the best part of the Christmas season?

  • Tell the group your favorite Christmas gift ever that you received or gave to another person.

  • Which is better: ordering gifts online or shopping in person?

Review

Ask eGroup members to share their favorite points from the sermon, what spoke to them, a phrase or moment from the sermon they related to the most, or questions they have. If members have a hard time recalling the sermon, talk through your notes and share your favorite points.

Make It Personal

  • Something good is here right now. Tell the group something you’ve been enjoying over the past few days or weeks. Is there anything you’ve been enjoying unexpectedly?

  • God is here, not there. Read Luke 2:8-9. Shepherds were seen as some of the lowest people in society. Who you are right now is all you need to be for God to reveal Himself — what matters is your position. What’s the biggest obstacle in your relationship with God right now? (Holly said for her it’s her schedule — how can you relate to that?)

    • What God wants from us this Christmas is our attention. How do you need to give that? (Where do you need to make space for God?)

  • God has good things to say to you. Read Luke 2:10-11. Sometimes we think God only speaks to us when we break a rule, but Jesus came so that you and I do not have to be afraid of God. How does that encourage you? What are some ways we might be acting out of fear toward God when we don’t need to?

    • In Matthew 1:20, the angel tells Joseph not to be afraid to take Mary as his wife. How has fear kept you from receiving good news? What are you afraid of that God is calling you to do?

  • God wants you to find the good. Read Luke 2:12-16. You’ll find what you’re looking for this Christmas. What do you need to look for? (What do you need to NOT look for? Holly gave examples of looking for drama, fights, etc.)

    • You’re going to find the good in dirty places, annoying people, and the simple moments. Which one of those challenges you the most? What can you do to find the good in it?

Act On It

Every morning this week, do the motions Holly showed us and repeat this to yourself: “Something good (hands open and palms upward) is here (spread hands apart in front of you like you’re opening a curtain) right now (tap fingers on your wrist like you’re tapping a watch).” Let it remind you to go out each day and FIND the good God has for you, even if it’s in dirty places, annoying people, or simple moments.

Prayer Requests And Prayer

Ask eGroup members to share any prayer requests they have. Record any notes or prayer requests to pray for members during the week. Father, thank You so much for Jesus, the reason we have to celebrate this season and the reason why we can ALWAYS find something good. Please bless our perspectives this week so we can see opportunities to spend time with You, take hold of the good things You have for us, and find the good in the unlikely places around us. In Jesus’ name, amen.
