Conversation Starters

  • The Lord did remarkable things this week through people serving all over the world! How did God use you during Love Week? What was your favorite experience?

  • What thing are you most likely to lose? (e.g., phone, keys, purse/wallet, glasses, etc.)

  • Have you been watching the Olympics? If you had to compete in the Olympics, which sport would you choose?

Review

Ask eGroup members to share their favorite points from the sermon, what spoke to them, a phrase or moment from the sermon they related to the most, or questions they have. If members have a hard time recalling the sermon, talk through your notes and share your favorite points.

Make It Personal

  • What’s something you “lost” — something you can’t do like you used to? Did you really lose it, or did you just stop “looking” for it? (e.g., You lost the ability to do a backbend, but it’s really because you stopped stretching and exercising each day.)

  • Pastor Steven said, “Faith doesn’t disappear, it deteriorates.” Share a time when you misplaced your faith or your faith faltered. What led to that? How did you overcome it?

  • Read Mark 9:17-24. There’s a difference between having unbelief and being an unbeliever. Where in your life do you have unbelief? “Help my unbelief.” How can praying that help us? (Why do we struggle to admit we have unbelief?)

  • Sometimes, we haven’t actually lost something, we just have to learn how to look. Looking means lifting things or checking under stuff — we have to be actively searching instead of just looking around. What have you lost that you haven’t really looked for? What can you do to look for it?

  • Go deeper. Prayer is more about a lens than a list — it’s more about what you see than what you say. What does that mean to you? How can you use that statement this week to change how you pray? Be specific.

  • Read Psalm 121. Is your focus more on what you’re walking into or who you’re walking in with? Talk about how we can practically shift our focus and lift our eyes to who we’re walking in with instead of what we’re walking into. (Think about a place of doubt and pain you are currently experiencing. How can you lift your eyes to Jesus and invite Him into that place this week?)

Act On It

This week, lift before you look. Lift your eyes to God before you do anything else, and each time you pray, say, “Lord, help me look.” Write that down somewhere you’ll see it each day this week: “Lord, help me look.”

Prayer Requests And Prayer

Ask eGroup members to share any prayer requests they have. Record any notes or prayer requests to pray for members during the week. Father, thank You for giving us grace in our unbelief and for teaching us how to see what You see. Remind us to lift our eyes to You first before we do anything else so You can give us the perspective we need. In Jesus’ name, amen.
