Knowing What We're Up Against

As parents, it’s natural to want to protect our kids from the world — culture, media, and peer pressure. But the real battle isn’t just around them. It’s also happening within them and against them.

If we only train our kids to spot cultural lies but ignore their internal struggles and spiritual battles, we’re leaving them vulnerable. It’s like teaching them to lock the front door while leaving all the windows wide open — they’re still exposed to what can get in.

Equipping our kids to fight these battles starts with conversation.

Start a conversation. Ask:

  • What’s been on your mind a lot lately? (For younger kids, try asking: What’s a thought that keeps coming back?)

  • Are there any feelings or pressures that have been hard to explain or talk about? (For younger kids, ask: Does it feel like you have to be a certain way, even when you don’t want to be?)

  • How do you think the enemy tries to pull you away from God’s truth? (For younger kids, give examples like, “I’m not good enough,” “They won’t like me,” or “I’m all alone in this.”)
