July Overview: Kids will face moments that feel scary, confusing, or hard. This month, they'll discover they don’t have to face those moments alone — God is with them and gives them strength in hard moments. Through stories of Gideon, David, Moses, and Hagar, kids will learn trusting God isn’t just about how we feel — it’s about what we do. Because God is with them and gives them strength, they can trust Him and take the next step, even when they feel afraid, sad, stuck, or alone.

Bible Story: God Strengthens David (1 Samuel 20:32-42)
Main Point: When I’m sad, I can trust God and take a step.
Memory Verse: “The Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9 (NIV)

As a family, read the Bible story together. Then, watch this week’s lesson video on the eKidz Online YouTube page to continue the conversation.

This week, kids learned about David and Jonathan. David was very sad because he had to leave his close friend Jonathan and go into hiding. Even though David was sad, he continued trusting God and moving forward with the plan God had for him. This story reminds us that trusting God doesn’t mean we never feel sad. It means believing God is still with us, still working, and still leading us forward.

💬 Family discussion questions:

  1. Why was David sad in this story?

  2. What do you think would have been difficult about saying goodbye to Jonathan?

  3. What does it look like to keep trusting God and take the next step when we feel sad?

🕰 Engage in everyday moments together this week:

  • When You Get Up: Tell your kid, “No matter how you feel today — even if you have a sad moment — God is with you and will help you take your next step.”

  • While You’re At Home: Talk about a time you felt sad but still had to keep moving forward.

  • As You’re On The Way: Ask, “What are some ways we can remember God is with us when we’re feeling sad?”

  • When You Lie Down: Pray, “God, thank You for being with us when we feel sad. Help us trust You and remember You are working in our lives, and give us the strength to take the next step. We love You. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.”
