October Overview: God is always good, no matter what is happening in our lives. Because of His goodness and faithful love, we can choose to be thankful in every season. Gratitude isn't just something we say when good things happen. It's a response to who God is. As kids discover God's goodness through each Bible story, they'll learn they can show thankfulness through their words, praise, service, and generosity.

Bible Story: Jacob’s Gift (Genesis 33:1-11)
Main Point: Because God is good, I can be generous.
Memory Verse: “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.” Psalm 107:1

Jacob and Esau had a difficult history. But when the brothers finally met again, Esau welcomed Jacob, and Jacob wanted Esau to accept the generous gift he had brought. Both brothers recognized how good God had been to them and how much He had given them. When we focus on God’s goodness and remember how generous He has been to us, we can choose to freely share what we have with others. Generosity isn’t about having a certain amount. Whatever God has given us — whether that’s our possessions, money, time, or something else — we can respond to His goodness by looking for opportunities to give.

Why do you think God wants us to be generous?
How did recognizing what God had given them affect the way Jacob and Esau responded to each other?
What is something you sometimes have a hard time giving up or sharing? How could remembering God’s generosity help you be generous?
🕰 Engage in everyday moments together this week:
When You Get Up: Tell your kid, “God has been so good and generous to you. Today, look for a way you can freely share what He has given you!”
While You’re At Home: Have each family member name something God has generously given them. Then brainstorm one way your family could use something you have to bless someone else.
As You’re On The Way: Ask, “When is it hardest for you to be generous? What could help you remember God’s goodness in those moments?”
When You Lie Down: Pray, “God, thank You for being good and generous to us. Help us remember everything You have given us so we can freely share what we have with others. We love You. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.”
