September Overview: God made us on purpose and for a purpose — to show Him in all we do. As we follow God, His Spirit helps us grow and live differently. This month, kids are continuing to learn they can show God to others through how they act, speak, and treat people every day.

Bible Story: David Chooses What Is Right (1 Samuel 26:1-11)
Main Point: I can show God to others when I show goodness.
Memory Verse: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” Galatians 5:22-23 (NLT)

As a family, read the Bible story together. Then, watch this week’s lesson video on the eKidz Online YouTube page to continue the conversation.

This week, kids learned about a time when David had the chance to hurt Saul, the very person who had been trying to hurt him. Even though many people thought David should take revenge, he chose to honor God instead and do what was right. David trusted that God would take care of the situation in His own way and in His own time. This story reminds us that goodness means choosing what is right, even when it's difficult. When we choose to follow God instead of doing what's easiest or getting even, we show others what God is like.

💬 Family discussion questions:

  1. How do you think David was feeling while Saul was chasing him?

  2. Why do you think David chose not to hurt Saul?

  3. What’s one situation where it might be hard to do the right thing? How can God help you choose goodness?

🕰 Engage in everyday moments together this week:

  • When You Get Up: Tell your kid, "Remember, God is good! Today, ask God to help you show goodness — ask Him to help you choose what is right, even when it's hard."

  • While You’re At Home: Talk about a time when you chose to do the right thing, even though it wasn't the easiest choice.

  • As You’re On The Way: Ask, "When are some times when doing the right thing can be difficult? How does that show others God’s goodness?"

  • When You Lie Down: Pray, "God, thank You for being so good. Thank You for always showing us what is right. Help us choose goodness, even when it's difficult, so others can see You through the way we live. We love You. In Jesus' name we pray, amen."
