September Overview: God made us on purpose and for a purpose — to show Him in all we do. As we follow God, His Spirit helps us grow and live differently. This month, kids are continuing to learn they can show God to others through how they act, speak, and treat people every day.

Bible Story: David Spares Saul (1 Samuel 24:1-11)
Main Point: I can show God to others when I show self-control.
Memory Verse: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” Galatians 5:22-23 (NLT)

As a family, read the Bible story together. Then, watch this week’s lesson video on the eKidz Online YouTube page to continue the conversation.

This week, kids learned about a time when David was hiding in a cave, and Saul unknowingly walked right in. David had the perfect opportunity to get even with Saul, and his men thought he should take it. Instead, David chose self-control. Rather than following his feelings, he chose to honor God and do what was right. This story reminds us that self-control means choosing God's way instead of simply reacting to our emotions. When we stop, think, and follow God, we show others what He is like.

💬 Family discussion questions:

  1. What choice did David make instead of following his feelings?

  2. Why do you think David chose to show self-control?

  3. What are some ways you can show self-control? How can God help you?

🕰 Engage in everyday moments together this week:

  • When You Get Up: Tell your kid, "Today, ask God to help you make wise choices instead of just following your feelings. He can help you show self-control!"

  • While You’re At Home: Talk about a time when you had to stop, think, and make a wise choice instead of reacting right away. How did God help you do that?

  • As You’re On The Way: Ask, "What are some ways we can practice self-control when we feel angry, frustrated, or impatient?"

  • When You Lie Down: Pray, "God, thank You for helping us make wise choices. Please help us show self-control and choose what is right instead of just following our feelings. We want our words and actions to show others what You are like. We love You. In Jesus' name we pray, amen."
