What We Are Learning In Preschool :: January Week 1
Main Point: The Bible helps me learn about God.
Bible Story: Young Jesus at the Temple ● Luke 2:41-52
Memory Verse: “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” Psalm 119:105 (NIV)
As a family, read “Young Jesus at the Temple” (Luke 2:41-52) from the Bible. CLICK HERE for children’s Bible recommendations.
After reading the Bible story, discuss these questions together:
What happened in the Bible story? (Jesus went to the temple with Mary and Joseph. When they started home, Jesus stayed behind without his parents, listening and asking questions. The teachers were amazed at how much He knew about God.)
How do we know Jesus wanted to learn more about God? (He stayed at the temple, listening carefully, asking questions, and talking with the teachers.)
How can the Bible help us learn about God? (We can read the Bible, talk about it together, and learn how much God loves us.)
This week, engage in everyday moments to continue the conversation:
When You Get Up: When your child wakes up, hug them and say, “Good morning! Did you know God gave us the Bible so we can learn about Him? Today, let’s learn about God together!”
While You’re At Home: Practice the memory verse together:
“Your word (open hands like a book)
is a lamp for my feet, (point down toward your feet)
a light (open and close fists like a light)
on my path.” (extend hands forward)
Psalms 119:105
As You’re On The Way: While you’re driving or walking, look for heart shapes (on signs, buildings, clouds, or drawings). Each time you see a heart, say together, “God loves the world so much, He gave us Jesus!” Then remind your child, “We can read about God’s love in the Bible.
When You Lie Down: At bedtime, cuddle up with your child, open your Bible, and read Psalm 119:105. Then pray, “God, thank You for the Bible. Thank You that we can learn about You. Help us love learning about You. We love You. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.”
