Sermon Highlights

  • Your expectations + others’ limitations - grace = a recipe for resentment

  • Martha was distracted, meaning she was “pulled apart.”

  • The enemy wants to weaken what you were sent here to do by getting you to focus on what you can’t control.

  • Changing directions is not distraction – it’s pivoting.

  • Martha was listing her agenda to Jesus, Mary was listening to His agenda. Which does your prayer life look like?

  • Look at your to-do list this week and ask: is this the Lord’s list, or is it my own?

  • If you’re being pulled apart by the demands on your life, the list that you’re living by is not Jesus’ list.

  • If God wills you to do it, He’ll walk with you through it.

  • My faith + God’s presence = a recipe for resurrection

Sermon Discussion

Conversation Starter

  • Pastor Steven told us a story about waiting a long time to get seated at a restaurant. What’s the longest you’ve waited for something you wanted? (ex. a table at a busy restaurant, a midnight release of a TV episode or game, a movie premiere, etc.)

Discussion Questions

  • “Your expectations + others’ limitations - grace = a recipe for resentment.” Which of these “ingredients” do you need to adjust to help reduce or avoid resentment in an area of your life?

  • “Look at your to-do list this week and ask: ‘is this the Lord’s list, or is it my own?”’ Where do you need a new list? How can you prioritize listening to God first as you write it?

Additional Questions

  • “My faith + God’s presence = a recipe for resurrection.” How have you seen God use your Faith + His Presence to resurrect something that felt dead?

  • “Martha was listing her agenda to Jesus, Mary was listening to His agenda.” Which does your prayer life currently look like? In what area of your life have you been more focused on your agenda than His?

  • “Martha was distracted, meaning she was ‘pulled apart.’” Practice some vulnerability. What are some things that have been pulling you apart lately that you're asking God for peace and direction in?

Prayer Prompt

Pastor Steven prompted us: “Look at your to-do list this week and ask: ‘is this your list, Lord, or is it my own?’”

Ask your eGroup: think about your to-do list this week and what’s weighing you down – what would it look like to lay that down at Jesus’ feet and focus on His list for your week?

Pray that each member of your eGroup will entrust their list this week into Jesus’ hands. Pray that God will guide them each day and provide them with His perfect and personalized list for each of their days.
