Conversation Starters

  • This week, we shared our favorite love song of all time in church. What’s yours?

  • Make sure you don’t serve alone this LOVE Week! Who can you invite to serve with you? (If you’re not serving anywhere, there’s still time to sign up.)

Review

Ask eGroup members to share their favorite points from the message, what spoke to them, a phrase or moment they related to the most, or questions they have. If members have a hard time recalling the message, talk through your notes and share your favorite points.

Make It Personal

  • God is building something in each of us. Share an area in your life where God is doing some construction.

  • Read Nehemiah 6:3. In this passage, Nehemiah kept his focus on what God told him to build when enemies tried to distract him. Name something you can focus on to keep the enemy from distracting your progress. (e.g. a scripture, a promise, etc.)

  • Your soul is like a city. What are some practical things you can do to protect the city of your soul, mind, will, and/or emotions? (e.g. Pray more, limit social media time, increase Bible reading)

  • Identify one door into your thoughts, feelings, or decisions, that’s been a challenge for you to close in this season of your life. What’s one step you can take towards shutting that door for good this week?

  • Read Nehemiah 7:2. Nehemiah asked people he trusted to help him guard the doors to the city. Who are trusted people in your life that can help hold you accountable and offer support while you guard the doors to your soul?

  • God opens doors! What’s one door of opportunity you’re believing God to open in your life? What are some practical things you can do to experience peace and joy before you see this door open?

Act On It

Let’s guard the doors of our soul. Pastor Steven reminds us that our eyes, ears, and mouth are major doorways we need to protect. Choose one doorway and make plans for how you’ll secure it by spending time with God this week.

Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • Eyes – Read your Bible before you go on social media, watch TV, or get on the phone each day.

  • Ears – Start and end your day by listening to worship music.

  • Mouth – Find a scripture to read out loud whenever you start to focus on negative thoughts.

Worship and Prayer

Ask eGroup members to share any prayer requests they have. Record any notes or prayer requests to pray for each other during the week.

Father, thank You for opening doors that nobody can shut. Help us recognize doors that need to be closed in our lives and give us the self-control to lock them. When opportunity knocks, give us the wisdom to know when You’re at the door. We want to make progress in our faith walk. Thank You for the grace you’ve given us on this journey. You deserve all of the glory, honor, and praise for the work You’re doing in our lives.
