This Is That Day
Pastor Steven Furtick
Sermon Highlights
“We need an integrative faith in God — there will always be a fight in my life, but there will always be fruit in my life.”
“I will not allow my experience in life to regulate my expectation of God.”
Shift from “One Day When…” to “One Day Win!”
This year, God is calling us to:
Remain – Remain hopeful, and leave room for disappointment.
Reduce – Don’t be anxious about tomorrow. “THIS is the day the Lord has made!”
Recognize – Recognize God’s blessings right in front of you.
Reframe – Every day is a “gross day” and a “growing day.” Which will you focus on?
Scriptures
Isaiah 27:1-6 - Taking root and blossoming with fruit
Proverbs 27:1 (KJV) - Do not boast about tomorrow
Lamentations 3:22-23 - God’s compassions are new every morning
Ephesians 3:20 - More than we ask or imagine
Sermon Discussion
Conversation Starter
As we start the new year as an eGroup, what are some hopes and prayers that you have for our group this year?
Sermon Reflection
What part of the sermon was just for you?
Discussion Questions
What area in your life do you need to shift your mindset from “One Day When…” to focus on the “One Day Win”? What will a win look like in that area?
Of the four “R’s” Pastor Steven shared about — Remain, Reduce, Recognize, and Reframe — which is God calling you to focus on right now, and what will that look like this week?
Additional Questions
Share about a time when you experienced an "integrative view of God” — when you remained in hope even in the midst of disappointment. What truth about God did you cling to during that time? (If you can't think of an example for yourself, does anyone else's faith journey come to mind?)
Pastor Steven taught us how in order to “win the day,” we need to have daily time in the presence of God. What new routine will you begin implementing to make space for daily time in God’s presence? (examples: listening to worship music on your way to work, reading a chapter of the Bible before bed each night, starting a gratitude journal, etc.)
Prayer Prompt
Ask this question to your eGroup and include it as part of your closing prayer:
Each morning this week, what will you focus on entrusting to God (in this “24-hour” period)?
Pray that each person will trust God with the burdens and decisions they’re carrying. Pray also for their weeks ahead — that they will wake up each day and declare: “This is the day that the Lord has made.”
