This Might Be My God Moment
Pastor Steven Furtick
Sermon Highlights
Celebrate the resurrection, don’t miss it.
God transforms lives on His timeline, not mine.
Sometimes you’ve got to show up unsure.
Just because it hasn’t happened yet doesn’t mean He hasn’t heard your prayers.
The darkest moments reveal the deepest truths about who God is in your life.
Every Thomas has a twin – we all have a Doubting Thomas and a Trusting Thomas.
Thomas’ “My God” moment – When he shifted from “I will never believe,” to “My Lord and my God!” When was yours?
It’s okay to wonder, “God, are you listening?” because Jesus did, too. He will sit with you in your “Why?”
I need God to do something from top to bottom.
If it wasn’t too late for Thomas, it’s not too late for you.
Scriptures
John 20:24-29 ESV - Jesus appears to Thomas
Mark 15:33-38 ESV - The curtain was torn from top to bottom
1 Kings 17:17-23 ESV - Elijah raises the widow’s son from the dead
Sermon Discussion
Conversation Starter
Pastor Steven talked about our phones listening to us. Share any crazy examples of this happening to you! (ex. You were talking about cats with a friend and then noticed ads for cat toys on Instagram…)
Discussion Questions
“Just because it hasn’t happened yet doesn’t mean He hasn’t heard your prayers.” Share a time when you wondered if God was listening, but later realized He had heard you all along.
"Even when I don’t know why, you’re still my God." Where are you working to trust God, even though you may have some doubts? And how can you still show up even when unsure?
Additional Questions
“Every Thomas has a twin – we all have a Doubting Thomas and a Trusting Thomas.” In what area of your life have you seen both “twins” show up in you?
“Thomas’ ‘My God’ moment was when he shifted from ‘I will never believe,’ to ‘My Lord and my God!’ Where in your life do you need a ‘My God’ moment, when your faith in God becomes deeply personal?
Prayer Prompt
Ask this question to your eGroup and include it as part of your closing prayer:
Pastor Steven taught us how, “It’s okay to wonder, ‘God, are you listening?’ because Jesus did too. He will sit with you in your ‘Why?’”
Ask your eGroup: Where do you currently need to invite Jesus to sit with you while you wonder, “why?” Pray that Jesus will show up personally and intentionally in each person’s life this week and that they will sense Jesus’ nearness. Pray they find hope in the resurrection–that Jesus defeated darkness and light has come.
