You’re Worth It

Sermon Summary

  • It's easy to let your mistakes, your performance, or others’ opinions determine how you see yourself. But your worth was never meant to be measured by what you do; it was established long before you ever had the chance to earn it. If you've been struggling with feeling like you're not enough, this message will remind you of the unchanging value God’s placed on your life.

Sermon Highlights

  • The God who breathed this universe into existence looks at us on our worst day and says, "You are worth the fine." That is the gospel.

  • Worth, as it is proclaimed, is based on whoever is proclaiming its value.

  • Our worth is:

    • Predetermined – we don’t have to earn it

    • Priceless – we’re invaluable to God

    • Permanent – nothing can take it away

  • The world says you’re only as valuable as your last performance.

  • This perfect, holy, trinitarian God ascribed invaluable worth to us before anybody would have said we were worth anything.

  • Before any of us breathed our first breath, our Heavenly Father said, “worth.”

  • He chose for us to be His treasure.

  • God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit thinks you are so worth it that he didn't just save you. He actually adopted you as firstborns, as co-heirs.

  • The God of the universe is saying, "You are mine. I didn't just save you. You're my kid.”

  • According to rabbinical law, you can disinherit a biological child, but you can't disinherit an adopted child. It's permanent.

  • You're not a disappointment to Him. You're not an interruption to Him. He didn't save you because it's in His job description. He saved you because it was His good thinking to set His favor on you.

Sermon Discussion

Conversation Starter

Choose the one that works best for your group!

  • While trying to fix her hair before preaching, Lisa Harper accidentally made an even bigger mess with some lotion. Have you ever tried to fix a small issue only to end up making the situation ten times worse?

  • Lisa Harper jokingly referred to the book of Psalms as “God’s Spotify playlist.” If you made a playlist to represent your life right now, what would you name it?

  • LOVE Week is coming up soon! Share your favorite LOVE Week memories or an event you’re excited to participate in this year.

Discussion Questions

  • "The God who breathed this universe into existence looks at us on our worst day and says, 'You are worth the fine.' That is the gospel." When you're having a bad day or you've made a mistake, what's the first thing you're tempted to believe about yourself, and what truth from God can you replace it with?

  • "Worth, as it is proclaimed, is based on whoever is proclaiming its value." Whose voice has the biggest influence on how you see your worth — God's, your own, or someone else's? How can you intentionally spend more time listening to God's voice this week?

  • "Our worth is predetermined, priceless, and permanent." Which of these three truths is hardest for you to believe right now, and how can you remind yourself of that truth this week?

  • "The world says you're only as valuable as your last performance." In what area do you need to rest in God's acceptance instead of striving for approval this week?

  • "The God of the universe is saying, ‘You are mine. I didn't just save you. You're my kid.’” How does thinking of yourself as God's child — not just someone He saved — change the way you approach Him?

  • Who in your life has helped you see yourself the way God sees you? (Bonus: send them a text and thank them!)

Prayer Prompt

Ask your eGroup if they have any prayer requests or praise reports they’d like to share, and include them in your closing prayer.

Pray this prayer over your eGroup to close, and/or send it to them throughout the week to let them know you’re praying for them!

Father, thank You for not just saving us but adopting us into Your family and raising us up to be co-heirs with Jesus. When we’re tempted to listen to a world that tries to define our worth, remind us that Your voice is the only one that matters, and You call us valuable. Help us walk in confidence this week, knowing our worth is predetermined, priceless, and permanent. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Additional Content

Here’s some additional content you can use to encourage your group this week.

  • Go Deeper: Prayer Activity.

Lisa Harper told us that when she felt nervous praying over a young man named Cricket, she just started praying Scripture, specifically Psalm 139. As you close out your eGroup in prayer this week, have one person pray Scripture over the whole group. You can pray verses of the group’s choosing or Psalm 139 (found here).
