Mindset #6: God has given me everything I need for the season I’m in.
Action Step: Embrace your now.
Read Do the True You chapters 22-25 before your group meeting.
Watch the video: Encourage students to take notes on what stands out to them and what they want to remember.

What’s On Your Mind?

If you could instantly fast-forward your life to any age, what age would you choose? Why? What do you think would be “better” about it?

Shift Your Mindset

Review the previous mindsets with your group before jumping into this week’s discussion:

Mindset 1: I’m not stuck unless I stop. (Action: Commit to progress.)
Mindset 2: Christ is in me. I am enough. (Action: Accept your Self.)
Mindset 3: With God there’s always a way, and by faith I will find it. (Action: Focus on possibility.)
Mindset 4: God is not against me, but he’s in it with me, working through me, fighting for me. (Action: Walk in confidence.)
Mindset 5: My joy is my job. (Action: Own your emotions.)

  • What part of your life right now feels frustrating, slow, or not where you want it to be? Do you ever feel like you’ll finally be confident, happy, or ready when something changes?

  • When you hear, “God has given me everything I need for this season,” what comes to mind? What makes that hard to believe?

  • Read 2 Peter 1:3. It says God has given us everything we need for a godly life. If God has already given you everything you need, what might He have already given you that you’re overlooking?

    • Why is it so important for us to know the difference between what we think we need and what we actually need?

  • Pastor Steven said sometimes failure is where growth begins (pg. 228). Read Proverbs 24:16. How does fear of failing make you want to skip this season and rush to the next one?

    • What would it look like to trust that God can use this season — even the hard parts — to grow you?

  • What is one area where you’re waiting for “later” to become who you want to be? (e.g., going to college, getting a job and making money, dating, making your own money, more freedom, etc.) What would embracing your now (to fully show up in your current season instead of wishing for or waiting on the next one) look like?

Pray: God, thank You that You are intentional with every season of our lives. Help us stop wishing away the moment we’re in. Teach us to trust that You’ve equipped us for right now — not just someday. Give us peace about the future and focus for today. Show us what You’re building in us during this season. Help us embrace our now. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Go Further

  • Talk about a time when you failed at something, but you learned from it. What did that experience give you that success wouldn’t have?

  • If this season is preparing you for something later, what might God be building in you right now? (e.g., character, discipline, humility, patience, joy, etc.)

    • How can constantly waiting for the next season keep you from growing in this one?

  • Read Matthew 6:34. What is this verse telling us? How can focusing on today help us have more joy and peace?

WEEKLY CHALLENGE: Go and DO the True You

"The things God has put in you are not random, minor things. They are there for a purpose, and you are here for a purpose." (pg. 224)

This week, instead of wishing you were somewhere else in life, choose to fully show up where you are.

  • Be present in conversations instead of thinking about what’s next.

  • Thank God for one responsibility you usually complain about.

  • Work on a skill that fits your current season.

  • Stop comparing your timeline to someone else’s.

  • Write down three things God has already given you for this season.

  • Ask God to show you what He wants to grow in you right now.

You don’t need a different season. You need faith and focus in this one!
