Middle School Week 1 (February 4): What is Worship?
Series Overview:
Ever stop to wonder if worship is more than we think? For many of us, worship is tied to music, moments in church, or a feeling, but that's only scratching the surface. Worship isn’t just something we do; it’s a way we live. It’s how we respond to who God is with our everyday, ordinary lives.
Romans 12 reminds us that worship is offering ourselves to God — not just our words, but our choices, habits, attitudes, and relationships. Real worship doesn’t wait for perfect conditions or strong feelings. It shows up in gratitude and surrender, in trust during hardship, and in the quiet, unseen decisions that shape who we’re becoming.
In this catalog, we’ll explore what it means to practice everyday worship by giving God our Monday-through-Saturday lives. We’ll look at how worship forms us over time, helps us see God in ordinary moments, and anchors us in truth when life feels confusing or hard. This isn’t about trying harder or pretending everything’s fine. It’s about learning to live on purpose with God at the center of every part of who we are.
Series Verse:
“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.” Romans 12:1
Discussion Goal:
Worship is how you live for God.
Start Talking (Conversation Starter):
What’s something you do every single day without even thinking about it?
Optional activity: Name that Song
Have students take turns humming or speaking (not singing) the lyrics to their current go-to song. The rest of the group has to guess both the song title and the artist.
Watch the Video
Encourage students to take notes on what stands out to them and what they want to remember.
Think It Through (and Talk It Out)
Before today, how would you have described worship? Has anything in this message changed that for you?
“Worship is our response to who God is.” What’s one area of your life where worship comes easily, and what’s one area where you want to get better at it?
What’s one “everyday” part of your life that could become worship this week — like at school, at home, or with friends?
Pray: God, thank You for helping us learn about worship. We want to be closer to You, so please help us learn how we can make worship part of our everyday lives over these next few weeks. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
