High School Week 1: Calling Over Comfort
The Main Thing:
Following Jesus means letting go of comfort.
Start Talking (Conversation Starter):
You have to give up one modern convenience for a month. Which would be the hardest to live without: your phone, air conditioning, streaming services, or your favorite food?
Explore the Scripture:
Read Matthew 4:18-22 together. Spend some time talking about the passage.
What words, phrases, or actions stand out?
What questions does this passage raise?
What’s God showing you about the passage?
What does this passage reveal about Jesus or people?
Now read Luke 5:27-28 and Mark 10:21-22. How do these passages add to what you read in Matthew?
Unpack It:
Discuss what you read and what you heard.
Compare the different responses people have to Jesus. What do you notice?
What do these verses show us about what Jesus values?
Which verses challenge or encourage you most? What about the message challenged or encouraged you?
Own It:
Make the Scripture personal.
Which person in these passages do you relate to most right now? Why?
What does it look like to choose comfort over calling? What does the opposite look like?
How’s God calling you to apply what you read or what you heard?
Live It:
Take action to apply what you learned.
This week, take the ALL IN CHALLENGE. Do at least one of the following!
Start a spiritual habit you've been putting off.
Have a faith conversation you've been avoiding.
Choose obedience in an area where you've been making excuses.
Serve someone instead of doing what's easiest.
Prayer:
End your meeting by inviting someone to pray for the group to have courage — not just comfort.
