High School YTHX – Worship Experience #1
DISCUSSION GOAL:
Help students understand that faith isn't knowing every step before saying yes to God — it's trusting Him enough to take the next step.
REVIEW
Ask youth to share their favorite points from the sermon, what spoke to them, a phrase or moment from the sermon they related to the most, or questions they have. If youth have a hard time recalling the sermon, talk through your notes and share your favorite points.
READ SCRIPTURE
Read the main scripture passages used in the sermon:
Additional Passages: Psalm 119:105, Joshua 3:7
GROUP DISCUSSION: Explore The Scripture
Read Genesis 12:1-4 and 2 Corinthians 5:7. Abram obeyed before he knew how everything would work out. What does his response teach us about the relationship between faith and obedience?
God told Abram to go without telling him where. How do you think that made Abram feel? How would you feel if God asked you to do something like that?
Do you feel God has told you to do something or go somewhere?
Read Psalm 119:105. God's Word is described as a lamp to our feet, not a spotlight showing the whole road. Why do you think God often gives us enough light for the next step instead of the whole journey?
Have you ever felt like God was asking you to take a step of faith without giving you the whole plan? What was that like for you?
GROUP DISCUSSION: Apply It To Your Life
“Saying ‘yes’ to God would be so much easier if we knew the whole plan.” Where do you feel that struggle in your life right now?
Pastor Jonathan shared that following Jesus became harder before it became better. Why do you think we sometimes expect following Jesus to make life easier?
Following Jesus isn't always easy. What are some reasons it's hard for students to keep saying "yes" to God?
"What could your life look like if you just said yes?" — Pastor Jonathan. What's one next step you believe God is inviting you to take?
He also said “our job is to be faithful with what God has put in front of us.” What do you feel like God has given you to be faithful with right now? What would being faithful look like consistently?
PRAYER PROMPT:
Lord, thank You that You are a God who is with us every step of our journey. Thank You for being a God who lights our path enough for us to see the next step in our lives. As we continue through this week, and when we leave YTHX, help us to continue to have the faith to say “yes” to what You call us to do. And give us the confidence to know that when we say “yes” to You, it’s better than what we can gain anywhere else. We love You. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
