DISCUSSION GOAL:

Empower students to walk out their faith in the authority, power, and confidence that the Holy Spirit gives them.

REVIEW

GROUP DISCUSSION: Explore The Scripture

  • Read Matthew 16:13-19. What was it about Peter’s answer that caused Jesus to give him authority? What does this tell you about how we access authority from God?

  • Read Acts 1:8. How might power from the Holy Spirit look different from the world’s idea of power? 

  • Read Acts 2:4. Pastor Ben talked about how what looked like chaos was actually clarity. Share a time God gave you clarity or peace in a chaotic moment.

GROUP DISCUSSION: Apply It To Your Life

  • Pastor Ben Graves started out by asking, "Who will Jesus be to you?" Who is Jesus becoming to you this YTHX? Not who your parents, leaders, or friends say He is, but who is He to you personally?

  • He reminded us that following Jesus isn't about avoiding broken places — it's about bringing His hope into them. "The Church wasn't meant to avoid darkness, it was meant to advance into it." Where has God placed you to be a light instead of blending in? What does your first step need to be?

  • “It’s simple to receive the power of the Holy Spirit — all we have to do is ask.” Where do you need to ask God to give you the strength of the Holy Spirit?

    • Pastor Ben challenged us to stay hungry for the Holy Spirit. As you think about last night, what do you think the Holy Spirit was showing you or inviting you into?

PRAYER PROMPT:

God, thank You for raising up our generation to make a difference in this world. Fill us with the Holy Spirit so we can go back to our schools and our lives ready to help others know who You are. Give us the confidence to know You’ve given us the power and authority to build Your kingdom. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
