DISCUSSION GOAL:

God doesn’t want to just set you free from something; He wants to set you free for something.

REVIEW

Ask youth to share their favorite points from the sermon, what spoke to them, a phrase or moment from the sermon they related to the most, or questions they have. If youth have a hard time recalling the sermon, talk through your notes and share your favorite points.

READ SCRIPTURE

Read the main scripture passages used in the sermon:

GROUP DISCUSSION: Explore The Scripture

  • Read Luke 19:30-31. Why do you think Jesus specifically chose the colt that had never been ridden? What does that tell you about the way Jesus works?

  • Read Luke 19:33-35. The colt was untied so Jesus could use it. How does that connect to Graham's point that God sets us free for something?

  • Read Luke 19:37-40. As Jesus entered Jerusalem, the people responded by praising Him. Why do you think praise was such an important part of this moment?

GROUP DISCUSSION: Apply It To Your Life

  • Graham talked about feeling "tied up" by things like anxiety, shame, insecurity, or fear. What are some things that can keep students your age from fully following Jesus?

  • The Bible says, “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers.” Where do you feel like God can use you to make a difference around you?

  • Where might God be setting you free for something?

  • Praise can help us focus on God instead of what's holding us back. Why do you think worship can change our perspective even if our circumstances don't change right away?

  • Graham shared four ways the Bible talks about praising God: (1) lifting our hands, (2) shouting out loud, (3) thanking God in advance for what He hasn’t done yet, and (4) to act foolish. Which one feels easiest for you? Which one do you want to practice more while you're at camp this week?

PRAYER PROMPT:

“Jesus, thank You that You only have to say the word for us to be set free. We give You anything that's been tying us up, and we ask You to help us walk in the freedom You have for us. Remind us that You didn't just set us free from something, but You set us free for a purpose. Help us worship You with our whole hearts and trust that You can use our lives for Your glory. We love You. In Your name, amen.”
